For decades, off and on, New France was forced to use a unique style of currency when coins were in short supply. The money, made from playing cards, served an important purpose in the early years of the colony.
In 2027, the Bank of Canada will be releasing a new $20 banknote featuring King Charles, the Vimy memorial and more.
