Episode 37 — When Care Becomes CarryingWhat happens when my participation interferes with another person’s responsibility? What does it mean to care about another person without assuming responsibility for their life? In this episode of Iconic Freedom | The Formula, Gregory examines the distinction between supporting another person's response-ability and replacing it with our own. Generosity remains a choice. We can give our time, resources, knowledge, attention, and presence freely. But like every choice, generosity carries responsibility and accountability. Before giving, there is something worth observing:Am I willing and able to respond to the outcomes of my choice to give?Because caring for self establishes the boundary from which generosity can remain generous.The distinction between support and carrying may not be found simply in how much we help, but in what our participation is doing. Support increases another person's capacity to respond.  Carrying substitutes my capacity for theirs. When we repeatedly fix, rescue, pay, explain, protect, or manage the outcomes of another person's choices, our own response-ability can eventually become part of the environment in which that person makes their next decision. And an interesting pattern can emerge:My increasing response-ability can accommodate your decreasing response-ability.No villain is required.
