AI’s Power Crisis: Why Electricity—not Chips—Could Decide the AI Race

About this episode
The next great bottleneck in artificial intelligence may not be semiconductors. It may be electricity.
On this episode of The Money Path, host Todd M. Schoenberger sits down with Adil Caner Sener, Partner at PEI Global Partners, for a deep dive into the enormous energy and infrastructure buildout required to power the AI revolution.
Sener argues that the near-term constraint facing AI data centers is increasingly access to dispatchable electricity, generation equipment and grid capacity. Nuclear power may become an important long-term solution, but he expects natural gas to play a critical role over the next several years as developers race to bring new computing capacity online.
The conversation goes inside the infrastructure financing boom supporting that expansion. Developers aren't simply securing land and waiting for a grid connection anymore. They may need hundreds of millions of dollars in pre-construction capital to secure turbines, transformers and other critical equipment years before a project generates revenue.
And according to Sener, capital itself isn't the shortage. Banks, private lenders and an increasing number of international lenders are looking for opportunities to finance credible power and data-center projects. The challenge is turning ambitious development pipelines into projects that can actually secure equipment, connect to the grid and deliver reliable electricity.
Todd and Adil also examine the enormous growth expected in Texas, where surging power requirements are forcing grid operators to distinguish serious projects from speculative interconnection requests. It's a glimpse into a much larger question facing America: Can the electrical grid expand fast enough to keep the United States competitive in AI?
The discussion goes global as well. Sener explains why China's aggressive investment in both renewable and thermal generation has given it a significant infrastructure advantage, why Europe may accelerate domestic AI capacity for data-sovereignty and national-security reasons, and why the United States still possesses major advantages in land, resources and capital.
Then there's energy. Sener explains why natural gas remains a crucial bridge for AI infrastructure, why turbine availability has become increasingly valuable and why the investment runway for traditional power resources—including gas and even coal—has been extended by the extraordinary growth in electricity demand.
Finally, Todd and Adil examine high oil prices, energy investment and whether there is a point at which rising energy costs begin to threaten economic growth.
AI may be a technology revolution—but building it is becoming one of the biggest energy, infrastructure and financing stories in the world.
