FLORIDA STATE - Central Arkansas Postgame LIVE

About this episode

Florida State vs. Central Arkansas Postgame LIVE — FSUVOCFB Host: Jackson Burleson | Presented by FanDuel Final: Florida State 34, Central Arkansas 7 (FSU favored by 46.5; did not cover) Intro & framing (0:00–1:40) Welcome to Florida State Primetime Live / Central Arkansas postgame. FSU returns home after a tough loss at Alabama. Host asks viewers to subscribe to Florida State at Voice of College Football, hit notifications, follow VOCFB merch, and check The Take with Jackson Burleson. Game result & immediate takeaways (1:40–3:00) FSU wins 34–7 but fails to cover 46.5. Host expected a more dominant defensive showing and thought they would cover. Biggest issue: undisciplined plays (running into the punter on a kick from the end zone; Jordan Saunders offsides in the fourth quarter — “a fifth-year guy that should not be making mistakes like that”). Penalties & defense (3:00–6:50) 10 penalties for 115 yards — the stat that jumps out. Cannot have those lapses vs. an FCS team; those same mistakes will get them killed vs. Virginia, Louisville, Miami. Makai Jones personal-foul sequence: trying to punch the ball out after the play was dead — “you’re going to get a flag.” Central Arkansas converted 5 third downs, including two easy ones on the opening drive (first play of the game was an automatic first down). FSU allowed 248 yards (138 pass, 110 rush). UCA was balanced; FSU’s talent/speed advantage was the main separator. Zero turnovers forced. Defense has been a season-long question mark (also vs. SMU and Alabama). “If it wasn’t for New Mexico State and Central Arkansas, we would be 0-4 if we scheduled a decent opponent.” Allowed 7 points looks fine on paper, but they gave up easy plays. Offense & red-zone issues (6:50–11:00) Few complaints except finishing: two red-zone trips ended in field goals instead of TDs. “You have to see Florida State finish, especially against Central Arkansas.” Scored fewer points than they did against Alabama. Ashton Daniels: interception in every game this season. This INT was bad — hesitation, didn’t trust his preparation. Also held the ball too long on a flea flicker. On the Javon Boggs TD, needed to hit him in stride sooner. Host’s evaluation of Daniels: average passer, above-average scrambler. Still “a lot of worries.” Deuce Robinson: one catch in the first half (the easy TD). Central Arkansas couldn’t cover him — PI flags whenever they threw his way. “There should be no reason why he doesn’t have ten catches in a game like this.” Norvell conservative: pulled starters / brought in Kevin Sperry while only up 27. Host didn’t like seeing Daniels laughing on the sideline. “You didn’t dominate… you didn’t get a win that’s going to satisfy the fan base.” FSU “should have put up 60.” Running game (11:00–13:20) Usman Chroma: “a man amongst boys.” 11 carries, 86 yards, 2 TDs. Has scored in every game (5 TDs total). Best player on the team — vision, cutbacks, creating when plays break down. King Travion Wisner (Contravion Wiseman): 8 carries, 41 yards. Didn’t look as explosive as at Texas; host thinks he’s lost a step / still not 100% after camp injuries. Freshman Amari Thomas got work late (with ~9:00 left in the fourth) and looked good — possible extra snaps with Sam Singleton out. Linebacker depth / Chris Jones (13:20–14:20) Defense looks thin at LB. Chris Jones went down, wasn’t putting weight on the leg, went to tent, later did drills and was cleared. Host still wanted him rested so they could work depth. Record & “weird” season so far (14:20–16:20) FSU is 2-2. Host isn’t surprised. No 30-point win all year. This 27-point margin is their largest. Sequence: beat NMSU, lose to SMU by 3 at home, lose at No. 10 Alabama by 14, beat UCA by 27. Zero points in the fourth quarter vs. Central Arkansas. “How is that possible?” Fan base wanted a fashion/dominant win they could look at in the mirror. Javon Boggs quote (17:00) “I liked the game that I had. I’m not really satisfied. Always want more. Just another step.” Host aligns with that: should have been better, even if the 46.5 was huge (they also missed a 28.5 vs. NMSU; they did cover 19.5 at Alabama). Virginia preview & series notes (18:20–22:00) Next: Virginia at home. Virginia 2-1 after a 38–27 home loss to West Virginia; hosting Delaware today (FSU monitoring). Virginia OL has heavy continuity / veteran age. Same QB as last year. Series: UVA has won 4 of last 7 and 3 of last 4. FSU leads 15–5 overall, 9–1 in Tallahassee. Last meeting: Virginia 46–38 in double OT (game-ending INT on 4th down). Randy Pittman Jr. had a rushing, passing, and receiving TD in the loss. UVA’s 46 was FSU’s second-highest points allowed since 2025. Host unsure FSU even deserves to be favored. Wants a fast start like the Deuce Robinson TD today. Suggests more designed QB runs to use Daniels’ size. Norvell / UCA connection & game-week notes (23:40–28:00) First-ever meeting between the programs. Norvell launched his coaching career as a GA at Central Arkansas in 2006; in Arkansas Hall of Fame. Head-to-head with friend Nathan Brown. Cool visual of young Norvell in cornrows vs. current look. UCA’s purple-and-gray striped field mentioned as one of the cooler fields in CFB. Biggest crowd UCA has ever played in front of (Doak Campbell). Their home stadium seats ~10,000. FSU paid UCA $450,000 (contract March 2024, payment by July 2026) plus 300 comps, suite, parking, bench passes. Contrast: $1.4 million for Week 0 vs. New Mexico State. Norvell family helped design a nutrition area at UCA — alumni giving back. Other scores & host’s picks (28:00–31:30) Florida over Ole Miss looking like a blowout (host picked Florida on his podcast). Trinidad Chambliss and the Gators’ RB looking special; FSU plays Florida at the end of the year (host has tickets). Later update: Florida 52–28 with 3:36 left. Central Michigan up early on Miami (later Miami takes 7–3 lead). Host 3-for-3 on picks so far, tracking LSU vs. Texas A&M, etc. Michigan loses to Iowa 20–19. Notre Dame dominated Purdue. Texas-Tennessee onside kick chaos; Texas lucky at the end. Shout-out SMU (sister goes there). Possession / efficiency stats that bothered him (31:50–32:40) UCA possessed the ball 39+ minutes, only two fewer first downs than FSU. UCA ran 73 plays to FSU’s 48. FSU offense 8.7 yards per play; defense allowed 3.4 YPP. “Weird stats… not the greatest.” Mike Norvell quotes that came in live (32:40–34:20) On the loaded upcoming schedule: “It’s fully loaded with opportunities. It comes down to us.” Going forward: “I got a lot of belief in this team. It’s all in front of us. We got to go get better and we’ve got to continue to push ourselves individually.” Host: the minor details (10 penalties vs. UCA) are killing them. Rest of schedule glance (34:20–38:20) Upcoming stretch: Virginia (home), Louisville (road), Miami (road), Clemson (home) — “we could easily lose all four.” Host would take 2-2 in that stretch (win the two homes). Louisville lost to Wake Forest by 3 at home (same 2-2 record as FSU). Boston College, Pitt, NC State, then Florida. Most nervous about Louisville, Miami, and Florida. Florida looking like a problem under John Sumrall. Close (38:20–end) Asks for comments: likes/dislikes vs. UCA, concerns, takes on upcoming games.
