OCTOBER 10 - Words That Heal or Hurt3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 25:19–20; Psalm 117; John 10//3-Year Bible Devotional Book (Year Two) Available on Amazon//________________________________________“Trusting a treacherous man in time of trouble is like a bad tooth or a foot that slips. Like one who sings songs to a heavy heart is the one who gives false counsel to the weary.” — Proverbs 25:19–20 (ESV)“For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.” — Psalm 117:2 (ESV)“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” — John 10:11 (ESV)________________________________________Have you ever been let down by someone you trusted—maybe a friend, teammate, or even a classmate? Proverbs 25 compares that kind of betrayal to a painful toothache—it hurts and makes life harder. But then there’s Psalm 117, which reminds us that God’s love and faithfulness are constant. Unlike people, He never disappoints, never abandons, and never betrays. John 10 shows that Jesus is the ultimate protector, the Good Shepherd who cares for us so deeply that He gave His life for us.Life can feel confusing when trust is broken, but God’s presence offers stability. When you feel hurt or weary, you can turn to Him, rely on His faithfulness, and find guidance for how to respond wisely. Just as a shepherd leads and protects his sheep, Jesus guides you through friendships, challenges, and tough decisions—so you can choose relationships that build you up rather than tear you down.________________________________________THINK ABOUT IT1. Watch Your Circle: Who are the people in your life you can truly trust, and how can you be careful about giving your trust too quickly (Proverbs 25:19–20)?2. Anchor in God’s Faithfulness: When friends or situations let you down, how can you lean on God’s steadfast love and faithfulness (Psalm 117:2) instead of losing hope?3. Follow the Good Shepherd: In what ways can listening to Jesus (John 10:11) help you make wise choices and avoid harmful influences in your life?________________________________________BOTTOM LINEPeople may let you down, but God’s love and guidance are unshakable—trust Him to lead and protect you.________________________________________PRAYERHeavenly Father, thank You for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. Help me to trust You when people disappoint me, to follow Jesus’ guidance in every part of my life, and to choose relationships that honor You. Protect me from harm, strengthen my heart, and teach me to rely on You above all else. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
