About this episode

Yeshayahu HaNavi screamed at people who turned everything into a joke because they wouldn't listen to the prophets' rebuke. The Mesilas Yesharim explains that the purpose of a navi is to set people straight—"You're doing something wrong, fix it"—but when people joke about everything, they can't hear correction anymore. They laugh it off, strengthen their resolve to keep sinning, and refuse to change. When mussar doesn't work, when intellectual arguments don't penetrate, only one thing speaks: physical punishment. Judgment. Pain.Someone who doesn't use their brain, who won't learn from others' mistakes or even their own—they're in serious trouble. The best teacher is someone else's mistake; the second best is your own. But if you learn from neither, Hashem has no choice but to send stronger messages. Chazal teach that if you ignore the warning signs, the consequences escalate. You weren't careful with tzedakah? You start losing money. Still not getting it? You lose more. We need to wake up and ask: what is Hashem trying to tell me? Why are these things happening? Speak to a Rav if you're unsure, but don't ignore the messages. Can you learn before the lesson gets painful?Hosted by Rabbi Ari Klapper and produced by Eli Podcast Productions, this episode is part of the Real Judaism series, available on RealJudaism.org.
