What Raising 3 Kids Taught Us About Marriage After 26 Years

Having children did not simply grow our family, it exposed our marriage.After 26 years of marriage and raising three children, we can see how parenting revealed selfishness, unresolved wounds, exhaustion, and very different ideas about family life.We learned that parenting is rarely 50–50. Keeping score only created resentment. Responsibilities changed through different seasons, and we had to stop measuring who had done more.Our childhood experiences also shaped how we disciplined and guided our children. Inner healing, compromise, and finding unity became essential.Some of our biggest arguments were not signs that our marriage was failing. We were simply exhausted. Learning to pause, show grace, and ask for forgiveness more quickly changed how we handled conflict.We also discovered how easily parents can lose one another. Conversations become focused on school, meals, schedules, and responsibilities. Regular dates and small moments of connection protected our relationship far more than one annual vacation could.Children grow faster than we expect. One day, they will leaveand husband and wife remain. That is why nurturing your marriage while raising children matters.Parenting exposed parts of us we did not want to see, but the Holy Spirit used those moments to heal and transform us.
