The American Wrestling Association (AWA) was a big deal in the wrestling world; they boasted some of the top talent in the world and a big TV footprint. It didn't last long, though. Verne Gagne's promotion was quickly poached by Vince McMahon, the ambitious son of the owner of the Northeast Territory. Once Vince took Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, Mean Gene Oakerlund, Bobby Heenan and more, it was all but over.
