He earned degrees in Jazz Performance from Brandon University and the University of Toronto before pursuing his education degree at York University. As a disabled person, his work is rooted in supporting disabled students in their development of positive disability identities. Before his current role as a learning support teacher in Lethbridge, Alberta, he spent seven years as an instrumental music teacher in Manitoba and Ontario.
