In 1974, 11 women were ordained to the Priesthood in the Episcopal Church. These underground ceremonies were conducted by three retired male Bishops who said, “obedience to the spirit justified their actions”. 50 years later, this story is about a woman who, pushed out of her faith tradition of origin, discovers the Episcopal Church. It offers her a space of healing from religious trauma. Yet, its traditions- though beautiful and meaningful- lack the down-to-earth Jesus community connectedness that she longs for. Without a model for this expression of Christianity, she decides to start her own church. A place for ex-Evangelical wanderers. A place where the faithful resist.
