DeBoer’s Defense Blueprint for Islanders

About this episode

The Islanders made a bold move by firing Patrick Roy and hiring Peter DeBoer late last season — now, with the playoffs in sight, DeBoer’s mission is clear: tighten up defense and build a team that can compete for a deep run. With Ilya Sorokin carrying heavy loads and needing reliable backup support, DeBoer’s focus on puck possession, fewer turnovers, and limiting opponent chances could be the key to unlocking Long Island’s potential. Known for playoff success across four teams, DeBoer brings proven coaching chops — and ownership is fully behind him as they aim to return to the postseason and beyond.
