Barzal Injury Threatens Islanders Season

About this episode

Mathew Barzal’s season debut is in serious jeopardy after an aggravated injury sidelines him for at least two weeks—just as training camp begins. The Islanders’ top scorer and highest-paid player, who posted 72 points last year, faces a major setback with a history of injuries limiting his play to just 30 games the prior season. With new coach Peter DeBoer relying on Barzal as a cornerstone of leadership alongside captain Bo Horvat, his absence looms large as the team braces for a condensed schedule and a critical opening night in Toronto.
