Saudis Wanted War On Yemen - Now They’re Begging For A Way Out!

About this episode
Right, so Saudi Arabia went back to war in Yemen, confident it could do what Saudi Arabia has always done: rain hell down on somebody else, call it security, then send the bill to Washington and the arms companies, after all, they keep the Western arms companies going with all that lovely oil cash, in exchange for protection right? Yeah, that’s not gone so well for them under Donald Trump has it?King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has been hit. Saudi aviation authorities have confirmed 12 people dead and 309 injured. Flights cancelled across Saudi Arabia as a result, operations suspended, foreign embassies warning their citizens away, and all because Mohammed bin Salman apparently thought another round of bombing Yemen would make him look like the big man of the Gulf and surely Ansarallah, the Houthis, would fall this time?Instead, Ansarallah have essentially shut down Saudi airspace completely. It has made Riyadh look vulnerable. It has made America look non-committal yet again as far as upholding their end of the deal goes and for all the talk of the Mecca Pact having been instigated and Pakistani and Turkish involvement, it’s not readily apparent anything has changed and swung the House of Saud’s way. And according to reports from Yemeni sources, it may have left Saudi Arabia now going to China, of all places, looking for someone to help get it out of the war it and its allies in the alleged Yemeni government chose to restart. If such reporting is true, the Saudis have had enough again and are begging for a way out.So much for this being a show of force. A bit of regional muscle-flexing. Saudi Arabia has the jets, the cash, the American weapons, the palace full of advisers nodding along every time MBS has a bright idea.Yet here we are. Their capital airport has become more of a crater.
