About this episode

This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format.Isaiah 45:1 - 48:22- The LORD calls Cyrus His anointed one and promises to go before him for the sake of His servant Israel, declares, "I am the LORD; there is no other God," warns those who argue with their Creator like clay with the potter, and calls all the world to look to Him for salvation, saying every knee will bend to Him.- The idols Bel and Nebo must be carried on animals while God promises to carry and save His people, Babylon is told to sit in the dust because she showed no mercy to God's people and her astrologers cannot save her, and God tells stubborn Israel He has refined them in the furnace of suffering, that if they had listened they would have had peace flowing like a gentle river, and to get out of Babylon.Acts 24:1-21- Five days later the high priest Ananias arrives in Caesarea with some Jewish leaders and the lawyer Tertullus, who flatters Governor Felix and accuses Paul of being a troublemaker who stirs up riots among the Jews, a ringleader of the cult known as the Nazarenes, and of trying to desecrate the Temple.- Paul answers that he went to Jerusalem to worship only twelve days earlier and stirred up no riot, admits he follows the Way and worships the God of their ancestors, believing the law and the prophets and hoping in the resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous, says he came to bring money to aid his people and to offer sacrifices and was found ceremonially pure in the Temple, and declares he is on trial because he believes in the resurrection of the dead.
