About this episode
This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format.2 Kings 18:9 - 19:37- Assyria captures Samaria and exiles Israel because they refused to listen to the LORD and broke His covenant, then King Sennacherib attacks Judah, and after Hezekiah pays him silver and gold stripped even from the Temple doors, the Assyrian field commander still stands outside Jerusalem taunting the people, asking what they are trusting in and telling them not to let Hezekiah deceive them.- Hezekiah tears his clothes, goes to the Temple, and sends for Isaiah, then spreads Sennacherib's threatening letter before the LORD and prays for rescue so all the kingdoms of the earth will know that He alone is God, and the LORD answers that He will defend the city for His own honor and for David's sake, His angel kills 185,000 Assyrian soldiers that night, and Sennacherib returns to Nineveh, where his own sons kill him.Acts 24:22 - 25:12- Felix, who is quite familiar with the Way, adjourns the hearing and keeps Paul in custody with some freedom, then listens with his wife Drusilla as Paul speaks about faith in Christ Jesus, righteousness, self-control, and the coming day of judgment, but Felix becomes frightened and sends him away, hoping for a bribe, and leaves Paul in prison for two years until Porcius Festus succeeds him.- The leading priests ask Festus to bring Paul to Jerusalem so they can ambush him, but Festus hears the case in Caesarea, where they cannot prove their accusations, and when Festus asks Paul if he is willing to stand trial in Jerusalem, Paul says he is not guilty of any crime and declares, "I appeal to Caesar!" and Festus answers, "You have appealed to Caesar, and to Caesar you will go!"
