Mica Miller: The Disturbing True Story Behind Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife

On April 27, 2024, 30-year-old Mica Miller was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina. Her death was officially ruled a suicide. But in the months before she died, Mica had been trying to leave her husband, Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul “JP” Miller. She had contacted police about harassment, reported tracking devices on her vehicle, and told officers she was afraid for her life. Now, Netflix’s Death of the Pastor’s Wife has brought renewed attention to Mica’s story — but the case did not end with her death. In this episode of Kat Has Questions, we go beyond the documentary and walk through Mica’s life, her relationship with JP, the allegations of coercive control, her mental-health history, the police reports she made before her death, and the evidence investigators used to determine what happened on April 27.We also examine what happened afterward: the Justice for Mica movement, the FBI investigation, Mica’s Law, and the December 2025 federal indictment accusing JP Miller of cyberstalking Mica and making false statements to investigators.JP Miller has pleaded not guilty and has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death, which remains officially classified as suicide. This is the full story of Mica Miller — and why the questions surrounding what she experienced while she was alive still matter.⸻About the showKat Has Questions is a curiosity-driven podcast about real stories that sound unreal — from unsolved crimes and strange history to the quietly weird corners of human behavior.New episodes every week.⸻Support the ShowIf you’re enjoying Kat Has Questions, follow the podcast, leave a review, or send in a weird historical mystery you want me to dig into next.Support the show (Patreon): https://patreon.com/KatHasQuestions?utm_medium=unknown&utm_source=join_link&utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator&utm_content=copyLink⸻Sources & Further ReadingNetflix Tudum — Death of the Pastor’s Wife https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/death-of-the-pastors-wife-release-date-newsNetflix Tudum — Where the Mica Miller Case Stands Now https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/death-of-the-pastors-wife-john-paul-miller-updatesU.S. Attorney’s Office — John-Paul Miller Federal Indictment https://www.justice.gov/usao-sc/pr/myrtle-beach-pastor-indicted-cyberstalking-wife-her-deathWMBF — Robeson County Rules Mica Miller’s Death a Suicide https://www.wmbfnews.com/2024/05/07/robeson-county-sheriffs-office-rules-pastors-wifes-death-suicide/The Sun News — Mica Miller Police/Court Documents https://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/local/article288383585.htmlThe Sun News — Medical Examiner Report https://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/local/article289515452.htmlWMBF — FBI Search of John-Paul Miller’s Home https://www.wmbfnews.com/2024/11/01/fbi-home-myrtle-beach-pastor-linked-mica-miller-investigation/South Carolina General Assembly — S.588 https://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess126_2025-2026/bills/588.htmSouth Carolina General Assembly — S.702 https://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess126_2025-2026/bills/702.htmNational Domestic Violence Hotline: https://www.thehotline.org/get-help/988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: https://988lifeline.org/ 🎵 Music: “Scrunchy” by Night DriftLicensed by UppbeatLicense code: CAHWZR9T33BFXDNY⸻Contact📩 kathasquestionspod@gmail.comInstagram: @KatHasQuestions Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/kat-has-questions-true-crime-and-unsolved-mysteries--7346258/support. ⸻ About the Show Kat Has Questions is a curiosity-driven podcast about real stories that sound unreal — from unsolved crimes and strange history to the quietly weird corners of human behavior.
