About this episode

DAY 208: Isaiah 44–48Isaiah contrasts the utter foolishness of idolatry with the sovereign power of Israel’s Redeemer. A man cuts down a tree, burns part of it for warmth, cooks over another part, and then fashions the remainder into a god he must carry and beg for salvation. The Lord is utterly different. He is Israel’s King, the First and the Last, the Creator who declares the future and carries His people from birth even into old age. That sovereignty becomes unmistakable when God names Cyrus before he ever rules Babylon, appointing this pagan king as His shepherd and anointed instrument to overthrow Babylon and release the exiles. Meanwhile, Babylon’s gods Bel and Nebo must themselves be loaded onto animals and carried away. The contrast could not be sharper: idols become burdens to their worshipers, but the living God bears His people and brings them home. Yet Israel needs more than political liberation. She must leave Babylon behind spiritually as well as geographically. Ultimately, these chapters point to Jesus Christ, the true Anointed King and final Redeemer. Cyrus releases captives from Babylon, but Christ breaks the greater bondage of sin, death, and Satan. He bears His people’s sins, carries their curse to the cross, pours out His Spirit, rises victorious, and shepherds His people all the way home.CHECK IT OUT ON:SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/6jKPORV75RzsBVOqC8IsvE?si=e1d0801259e14135APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/five-minute-bible/id1865075283YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/@KendallLankfordLET'S CHURCH: https://lets.church/channel/five-minute-bible
