About this episode

DAY 214: 2 Kings 20–21Isaiah has just carried us to the heights of new creation, but 2 Kings brings us crashing back into the weakness of Judah’s earthly kings. Hezekiah receives fifteen additional years of life, yet miraculous deliverance does not cure his pride. When Babylonian envoys arrive, he proudly displays Judah’s treasures, and Isaiah announces that those very treasures and some of his descendants will eventually be carried into Babylon. Then Manasseh takes the throne and systematically reverses his father’s reforms. He rebuilds pagan high places, worships Baal and the host of heaven, practices sorcery, fills the Temple with idols, and sheds innocent blood throughout Jerusalem. The lesson is devastating: reform can clean a building, but it cannot regenerate a heart. One generation’s faithfulness cannot automatically produce the next generation’s obedience. Judah needs more than another reforming king. She needs a perfectly faithful Son of David. Jesus Christ is that King. Hezekiah receives additional years but eventually dies; Christ enters death and destroys it. Hezekiah displays his treasures in pride; Christ possesses all things yet humbles Himself and gives His riches to His people. Manasseh fills Jerusalem with innocent blood; Christ is the truly Innocent One whose blood is shed in Jerusalem to cleanse the guilty. Cyrus can release captives, Hezekiah can reform worship, and earthly kings can accomplish temporary good, but only the suffering and risen Servant can bear sin, pour out the Spirit, gather the nations, and bring the new creation Isaiah promised.CHECK IT OUT ON:SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/6jKPORV75RzsBVOqC8IsvE?si=e1d0801259e14135APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/five-minute-bible/id1865075283YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/@KendallLankfordLET'S CHURCH: https://lets.church/channel/five-minute-bible
