Beyond The White Coat | Dr. Zwade Marshall & Dr. Wael Saasouh | From Beirut To Medical Leadership

In this episode of Beyond the White Coat, Dr. Zwade Marshall sits down with Dr. Wael Saasouh—anesthesiologist, physician-scientist, research leader, and longtime member of the Doc2Doc community—for a conversation about resilience, opportunity, and building a new life in medicine. After completing his medical training in Lebanon, Wael moved to the United States in pursuit of greater opportunities in research and academics. But starting over came with significant challenges—from immigration and financial uncertainty to repeating residency and supporting a growing family on limited income.Together, Wael and Zwade explore the sacrifices behind the immigrant physician journey, the pressure of delayed gratification, and what happens when the mindset that helped you survive becomes difficult to turn off. Wael also shares how his passion for research ultimately led him to build research programs, mentor aspiring physicians, and expand opportunities for meaningful research beyond traditional academic institutions. The conversation also brings Wael’s journey with Doc2Doc full circle—from becoming a borrower during one of the most financially challenging periods of his training to serving as Chair of Doc2Doc’s Scientific Research Committee, an advisory board member, and a physician investor. At its core, this episode is about perseverance, growth, and remembering where you started. If you’ve ever questioned whether the sacrifices of medical training will be worth it—or wondered how struggle can eventually become an opportunity to help others—this conversation is for you.Follow us on social media:Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/doc2doclending/Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/doc2doclendingTikTok – https://www.tiktok.com/@doc2doclending/LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/company/doc2doclending/Twitter/X – https://x.com/doc2doc_lendingLearn more about the podcast and upcoming episodes:https://www.doc2doclending.com/podcastsSubscribe to stay up to date with the latest episodes.
