About this episode

This week we’re at a Haven holiday park in Prestatyn, North Wales, after eight weeks of vanlife in the UK, the MOT drama and too many lay-bys. Then we get into the big one: Naomi has withdrawn from her online MA in Irish folklore and mythology. She chose it as a way of healing a difficult first experience of academia. Instead she found an enrolment process that left her two weeks behind, scanned PDFs she couldn’t highlight, a course with no real community, and a male-dominated field still sidelining women’s stories. She talks honestly about the elitism of academic language and the toll it took on her mental health. Then we zoom out. One in three pupils leave school without a grade 4 in English and maths. 39% of job skills are set to change by 2030. Graduate jobs have nearly halved in a year. Universities are cutting thousands of humanities jobs. So what does that mean for our children, for home education, and for learning that doesn’t fit inside an institution? An honest alternative living conversation about university, home education and choosing your own path. Leave us a review, send us your questions, or continue the conversation with us.
