Between Doors: How Institutions Trap You in Liminal Space

Clown Cast unpacks the rite of passage architecture that institutions—from cults to MLMs to secret societies—weaponize to trap people in permanent liminal space. The episode traces how van Gennep's three-stage ritual structure (separation, transition, incorporation) gets perverted when the middle stage never ends, keeping people disoriented, bonded, and dependent. Examples range from medieval guilds to modern online communities to NXIVM's explicit color-coded initiation system. The pattern is consistent: they're selling a door, not a room.
