Fiona Patten: A Side

On the A Side today Rachel is joined by Fiona Patten. Fiona Patten is one of Victoria’s most influential social reformers and former Member of Parliament. As founder and leader of the Sex Party - then rebranding to Reason Party - she built a reputation for working across party lines to achieve significant legislative change.  During her eight years in Parliament, she played a pivotal role in reforms including voluntary assisted dying, safe access zones around abortion clinics, the decriminalisation of sex work, the establishment of Victoria's first medically supervised injecting centre, legalisation of ridesharing, and the introduction of a spent convictions scheme. She also championed drug law reform, establishing Australia's first parliamentary inquiry into cannabis use and a taskforce examining medicinal cannabis driving laws.
