About this episode

Rabbi Joseph Dana records a short daily Mishnah class, working through all of Mishnah a few minutes at a time.Mishnah Berachot 4:3 - the Mishnah introduces the abridged Amidah, Havineinu, which replaces the thirteen middle blessings with one request for understanding. It sets out three opinions on when it may be said: never, when a person is too preoccupied to concentrate, or only when the text is not fluent in his mouth. The class explains how the commentaries read the third opinion, and why the halacha today is that Havineinu is not said at all.---Chapters:(0:00) The abridged Amidah: Havineinu (1:15) Opinions: never, or if preoccupied (1:58) Rabbi Akiva: if the text is fluent (2:45) Even then, he must be unable to focus (3:30) Halacha: not said today---Visit: westdealshul.org Sponsorships: west.deal.classes@gmail.com
