11. Nanne Bos - Co-Founder, Scriptorium Initiative: "The Synthetic Board: How AI Predicts Stakeholder Reactions."

About this episode
What if the next frontier for communications isn't producing content faster, but seeing narratives, stakeholder reactions and crises before they fully develop? In this episode of The Reputation Room, host Javier Boix talks with Nanne Bos, Chief Communications & Brand Officer at Aegon and co-founder of the Scriptorium Initiative, a think tank "making sense of the unknown" about AI's impact on communications, brand and leadership. The conversation builds on his white paper, "Predictive Communications: From AlphaGo to Narrative Intelligence," and looks at where the profession is heading.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN▶ Why AI is different for communicators. For the first time, the medium is becoming the messenger. Stakeholders increasingly reach organizations through AI intermediaries, sometimes AI to AI.▶ The five secondary effects of AI on communications: synthetic and AI-mediated stakeholders, mass conversation, predictive communications, the uncanny valley of human authenticity, and the shift from reactive to foresight-driven departments.▶ What narrative intelligence means. Narratives are now dynamic and fragmented, and they cluster into bigger stories that can become either a threat or an opportunity. Keeping up requires AI.▶ The AlphaGo lesson. Nanne uses Move 37 as a metaphor for communications: AI can project possible futures and let you rehearse the outcomes of your actions before you take them. It is not a crystal ball, and humans still own context, emotion and meaning.▶ Cognitive surrender vs. cognitive offloading. Hand off drafting and execution, but never your judgment. Offloading frees you to zoom out, especially in a crisis.▶ Inside the synthetic board. Scriptorium built a seven-member AI board with full life stories, personalities and diverse viewpoints. You can watch them debate a decision and then test how stakeholders might react. Think of it as a heads-up display for human dynamics.▶ Narratives as threat vectors. Why communications and risk may converge, and why future organizations may regroup work around workflows rather than traditional departments.▶ Why drafting got adopted faster than foresight. Output-oriented departments, slow technology adoption and resistance to the idea that communication could be synthetic.▶ Org design and the "Luigi" story. Nanne's first AI "team member" was met with fear. Luigi "retired" after about 18 months and evolved into a full synthetic comms team.▶ A new breed of communicator. Engineers, systems thinkers and psychologists will sit alongside communicators. Nanne speculates that one person could do the work of ten, and that teams may end up half human and half AI.▶ Education and the next generation. What Alpha School suggests about AI-personalized learning, why universities need to overhaul their programs, and why we should raise the bar now that we have better tools.▶ Governance and ethics. Large organizations are caught between fear of mistakes and fear of missing out, and a single enterprise copilot won't be enough. Nanne also covers the EU AI Act and why values still matter most.▶ Will brands just shape personalized AI agents? Nanne hopes not. He warns about sycophantic chatbots and bubbles, and argues for trustworthy, neutral AI and the old PR rule: be good and tell it.▶ The strategist of narrative futures: less press officer, more conceptual, reflective, impact-focused thinker.https://thereputationroom.comhttps://scriptorium-initiative.ai/Scriptorium Initiativehttps://scriptorium-initiative.ai
