About this episode
During the summer of 1988, twelve-year-old Charlie and his two best friends find a cruel remedy for their boredom. Everyone in town recognizes Mr. Budokai, the little man with the bowler hat, the cane, and the smile that never seems to leave his face. Nobody knows much about his past. For Charlie’s friends, that makes him an easy target. Charlie knows their harassment is wrong. But knowing and refusing are different things, and one afternoon at the fruit market leaves him with a memory he cannot escape. Determined to make amends, he sets out to apologize, away from his friends and the laughter of the crowd. For the first time, Charlie will have to face the man behind the neighborhood rumors.
